Biggest shake up in decades...
The Government announces plans to overhaul key areas of employment law

Following a Government announcement at the end of November; key areas of legislation are to be reviewed following the outcome of the "Red Tape Challenge".

Employment legislation is one of the most complex and fastest developing areas of law in the UK, so this announcement has been welcomed by many organisations.

Reported key areas of legislation to be affected include:

  • Proposed changes to the dismissal system and looking at ways of simplifying the process,
  • From April 2012, the qualification period for unfair dismissal will be increased to two years, and;
  • Forthcoming changes to the employment tribunal system, including proposals for employees paying a fee to lodge a claim and to introduce a £30,000 threshold, to name but a few.

It is essential that as an employer, you get things right, so as more news and the affects these changes will have on employers emerges, we will bring this to you through further issues of our EShot.
