We’re really pleased to share that White Horse Employment is now B-Corp certified. Uuu, sounds fancy I hear you say… but what does that actually mean, and why should you care?
In simple terms, B-Corp is about doing business properly. It’s a global standard that looks at how companies treat their people, their clients, their community and the environment, not just how much profit they make. To be granted the certification, businesses are assessed across five areas: how they’re run, how they treat their team, how they support the wider community, their environmental impact and how they look after customers.
Becoming B-Corp certified wasn’t a tick-box exercise for us. It’s a detailed, challenging process, and we’re genuinely chuffed to have met the standard and joined a community of businesses trying to do things the right way.
For us, this isn’t about a badge or a headline. Recruitment affects real people and real careers, as well as the businesses and communities around them. That means how we operate matters. This certification is a way of holding ourselves accountable, now and in the future, and committing to high standards we’re proud to stand by.
Why B-Corp?
Though we be small, we be mighty and we do believe that we have a part to play in supporting the South West economy and its communities. We pursued the B-Corp certification for a number of reasons, but mainly because we wanted to make a long-term commitment to continuous improvement, trust and clarity for our candidates and clients and to ensure our internal practices match our external promises. Basically we want to assure you that we are walking the talk.
Not going to lie to you, it was a labour of love! Behind the scenes we took several (ok MANY) steps to achieve the accolade’s stringent criteria. Lots we already had in place, some needed improving or looking at and a few needed instigating.
We:
• Strengthened our governance and data transparency
• Enhanced our candidate-care principles
• Updated our DEI commitments
• Developed more robust ethical recruitment practices
• Honed our community engagement initiatives like our events and forums
• Powered up our staff wellbeing programmes
• Ensured fairness and clarity in client and candidate communication
What does it mean for you?
Well, well well, this is all great stuff BUT... what does it actually mean for you and why should you care?
This is not just a sexy little badge to us. This isn’t something to earn, stick in an email footer and move on from. For us, it’s a genuine commitment to you.
Our aim is to turn this certification into real, practical value, improving how we work day to day and raising the bar on the quality, consistency and integrity of the service we provide.
For our clients, that means:
• Clearer, more transparent hiring processes
• Stronger governance and ethical standards
• Less hiring risk through more considered internal checks
• Values-led recruitment that supports and protects your employer brand
• A more consistent candidate journey, leading to better engagement and offer acceptance
• Roles being represented honestly and accurately
• A focus on long-term partnerships, not quick wins
For our candidates, that means:
• A fair, respectful and open recruitment experience
• Clear communication and realistic expectations from the start
• Roles being presented as they truly are
• Less chance of being mis-sold or mismatched
• Support that’s focused on long-term career fit, not just the next move
• A recruitment partner guided by principles, not placement numbers
We are, always have been and always will be a local service aimed at local people and businesses. Our aim is to provide superior opportunities for the business community in the South West and for us B-Corp is the beginning of a journey, not the end.
If you’d like to learn more about how this shapes your recruitment experience with us, we’d love to talk.
